Perfect Jazz Bass Mod - Bartolini + EMG EXB

I thought I would share an amazing mod I did to my Jazz Bass.

I just bought a 5-String MIM Fender Standard Jazz Bass. It was my favorite color - Midnight Wine!

First mod was to drop Bartolini 57CBJD pickups in it. GREAT sound color as a passive bass.

I like the shading you get with an active preamp, but there is the issue on the Standard J Bass of the one tone knob and limited space under the control plate for much of any sort of preamp.

Since my tendency is to scoop mids and boost highs and lows, this was the ideal solution:

With the EXB completely rolled off, it is the passive Bartolinis by themselves. As the EXB is rolled on, it scoops the mids and boosts both highs and lows simultaneouesly. In essence it functions as an active/passive switch and 3-band preamp all in one, making this the most versatile bass I've ever owned! There is plenty of room under the control plate for the battery and with no need to switch Vol pots, the whole operation took under twenty minutes!

I just ordered a 3-ply black pickguard from WD Music and a Schaller Roller Bridge. I will post pics after those arrive.
