Performing with a Click

most software programs will have a tempo click option... you could always record as an mp3.. if you're fancy a drummer could trigger from the set.

I like the drum trigger idea, how do we do that?

We used MP3, with the backing tracks panned hard left, and click hard right, fed the tracks to the PA and the clicks to the drums.

This is exactly what we do, we use prerecorded keyboards (until we find a "real" keyboard player) & a handful of other "sounds" so the click really helps our drummer hold things together.

Interesting topic. We've been using a Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome during our live Church services for just over a year now. At first we were resistant to it, now its like part of the band. We have 4 rotating drummers each bringing their own temperament and it helps keep things locked in. We're using Avioms for the bass and drums, however I keep the click down to just barely audible as I'm focused on what the drummer is doing so if he's off tempo with the click I'm where he is. One drummer created his own loops with Garageband and uses those to enhance timing and I like that a lot better, not as sterile as a straight click.
