As a non-music major undergrad at Michigan State University from 1986-1990, I had the great fortune of studying with Peter Dominguez. I'm sure several of you here know Peter, who left MSU to join the faculty at [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

Peter is one of the most gifted teachers I've ever met; studying with him inspired me to become a college professor. I wasn't an especially talented student, but my weekly sessions with Peter literally got me through undergrad. He was a fantastic mentor and such a patient teacher. Whenever I felt I might get frustrated with a student during my teaching career, I just thought back to Peter and how he handled my struggle and confusion. Peter took me on as an absolute beginner with no previous music experience.
As I write this, I'm listening to his 2008 recording Invalid Link Removed with Billy Hart and Rick Germanson. Great record. Check it out.
So, chime in if you know Peter through his teaching or his playing. Saying that I studied with him has always had the same effect on people: a warm smile and an assumption that I am a much better player than I really am. He isn't responsible for the fact that I'm not a fantastic bass player today, but he had everything to do with getting me through college and teaching me enough to participate in music as opposed to just listening.
