I was wondering if any of you guys know him. Ive been studying with Phil for about a year now and it's been great. If you dont know who he is you owe it to yourself to check him out. Visitation, Lullaby of the Leaves, and It's A Wonderful World are instrumental tracks and I believe all the songs feature Phil. Its a great deal for any of his cds. If you email him you might be able to get some of the older cds hes done as a leader that are all instrumental.

I remember Phil Flanagan when he was in NYC in 80s. My friend Pete Shortell was friends with him and was always telling me to come down and hear him. He used to play with Mike Ledonne among others. Great player with great feel and chops. Got a really warm, full sound.
I had only heard Phil during his stint with Scott Hamilton. A mutual friend brought him over to my house when Phil was in town doing I don't remember what.
I handed him a bass and he started playing through a whole bunch of Sott LaFaro's solo's off of the Vangaurd sessions..... I told him to get outta my house immediately!
Of course, i'm kidding...he sounded just great.

Sure its an opinion and of course Ill admit it. Is it really nesecary to put In My Opinion hes the baddest white guy? 99% of the time that type of statement is opinion so Im sorry I didnt feel it was nesecarry to put that. Secondly, ask yourself, what's "bad"? Is Eddie Gomez "badder" than, say, Charlie Haden because he can play more notes? What about sound and time?
Not to get too heavy about the whole business, but the racial aspect is not cool.

Clay. Sorry for initiating the pile-on, but I think, in the best scenario, that's what a forum such as this is good for: education, and hopefully not just about playing the bass.
