Phil Jones Bass Cabinets

Good day;

Question for a pro or novice: Have you had any experience using any of Phil Jones bass cabinets? I'm particularly interested in anyone who plays electric or acoustic bass that have ever plugged into an amp connected to one of Phil Jones' largest cabinets like the PJB 16-B or 24-B cabinet.

The only pro I'm aware of is Bob Babbit and he's also one of the spokes persons for Phil Jones. I'm looking for an unbiased opinion of the larger cabinets. Thanks.

Well, if he's asking Adam personally for his experience then I don't see a problem with it being in here. I've always wanted to try one of those amps and cabs out. They look really freakin' heavy though.

I had a 6 Pack (definitely not my stomach) for a while. Great sounding amp but, for the weight, I did not find anything real compelling about it. I can get almost as much volume out of my Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 10t combo that weighs 70lbs less! A true comparison would be something like a Shuttle 6.0 210 combo. And, at least 50lbs less. So, yes. If you are looking for something light..don't even consider PJB. If it is not an issue for you..try it out and decide for yourself.

I've been using the Phil Jones Bass 8T and 16B since '05. My 8T is serial number 1 actually... I've played over 1000 shows on these cabs... sound AMAZING still.

I've changed heads and power quite a bit but the cabs have been consistent.

Very tight, focused low end and sparkling highs. Have been used in shows with Latin (Javier Mendoza), Country (Candy Coburn), Blues (Anthony Gomes), Rock (New Soul Cowboys) artists and with my instrumental group (Invalid Link Removed). Always gig appropriate and lend to a tighter stage sound.

For the tight, focused sound I prefer... more like that of a recording studio monitor than a traditional bass amp.... I have found my favorite cabinets hands down.

For rock guys... a nice tube preamp hit hard on the input stage can add some nice color.

These cabs have played blues clubs to arena shows and I've never needed anything bigger.

p.s. the suitcase (powered 4X5) is my favorite combo amp!
