In this situation, it's the main unit, on the floor in the vertical position. I'm playing my NS Design EUB, seated in a cello position, so the orientation of the amp works well. There is one microphone in front of the conductor to pick up the entire orchestra and pipe it into the auditorium. I was told twice already to turn down during tech week.
Another time I had the amp under my seat for a 50s motown review. That time they used the line out to the house, so it functioned more as a pit monitor than anything else, and still kicked butt.
I try to get away with either the Double Four or Briefcase on the bulk of my gigs, which works really well (especially when you're in the studio). If I need something louder, the D600/4B setup comes out.
Very cool. I'm definitely interested in the Double Four or Bass Cub as a secondary amp.
I used the Super Flightcase on 2 gigs last night. First up was my Shen SB200 with a roots/blues/jazz/americana band (4 pc, with guitar/banjo, keys, vox, drums, bass). The venue was pretty small and intimate, with about 20 people at any given time. My gain was set to about -5dB and the volume knob around 1/2 way up all night (my Full Circle has a VERY hot output - the gain any higher audibly clips). Plenty of capacity and EXCELLENT sound.
From there I went straight to a packed rock club with several hundred people and a HUGE sound system. The band was a 4pc rock/pop group with vox, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drums, and bass. I used my 6-string electric and the PJB mainly as a DI. Gain about +5dB, volume just about all the way up. Even cranked, I couldn't hear a thing from the PJB behind me, but mainly from the house system out front, with a tiny bit of wedge. The bass in the mains sounded *great*. However, it doesn't matter *too* much cause I was perfectly able to hear the bass from the house/wedges. Was also complimented on how incredible my bass sounded out front, which is what matters most. The PJB DI is excellent.
Granted, most of my gigs fall in between those extremes. And I usually don't deal with both extremes in the same evening, but it happens from time to time. Regardless, the PJB sounded absolutely fantastic, and right for the respective genres, in both situations. Still, I'd LOVE to have a D-600 and a couple C8s...
