Phil Jones Bass Owners' Club

I have a question to PJB Suitcase owners. Has anyone tried connecting an 8ohm extension cab other than a PJB one? I was thinking of trying a Bergantino CN112 just for fun but I don't want to cause any problems/damage. Any thoughts on that? Thanks.

I suppose I need a picture to be a member and I will do that.

I just wanted to post that I used my new BG-100 tonight at Church in a large meeting room with a guitarist a flute and an electronic drum kit. The cab did beautifully. Had input gain at 3 and master volume at 3 with the bass dialed down a bit for the room. Man the tone was sweet and I could keep my on-bass volume at about 80 percent to leave headroom and be heard in the mix just fine. I was really impressed and shocked actually. This will now be my go to cab for monitoring myself at Church and for playing to this room. Wow. Seriously great kit. Pardon the interruption :-) .

Hello all!

Quick question...

I'm considering getting 2 pjb c4 cabs...

Will these work well for medium and larger gigs? I usually play small/medium venues lime bars and stuff...occasionally larger venues with access to direct in.

Thanks for the help!

It's going to depend on the amp you put on it, but I think you'll be just fine with that set up. Many of my medium gigs I'm using a D600 and one 4B cab and it handles the room fine.

I'm wondering how most electric bassists use their PJB amps. Do you electric players go straight into your PJB amps and play completely clean? Or do you use effects like over- drive or whatever in front of the amp?

I recently rediscovered my PJB Super Flight Case, which had gone by the way side in favor of my bigger Genz Benz system (needed for my way-too-loud rock band). But the Super Flight Case is a great piece of kit for if I ever happen to meet musicians who can keep the volume reasonable.

My Genz/Berg rig is nice and clean, but doesn't really compare favorably to my Super Flightcase. One of the things I love about the PJB is that it can handle effects so well. No tweeters or crossovers to deal with, so the response is very smooth across the entire frequency spectrum.

I generally run totally clean, but I will sometimes turn on an Xotic BB pre distortion. Hope to get a Darkglass Microtubes and Duality at some point.

Weird, the link works on my Dell PC, and on my MacBook Pro laptop, but not my iPhone talkbass app. Works on the Safari browser on my iPhone. Were you using the talkbass app for iPhone/iPad?

Does anyone know how I notify the moderators of the glitch in the iPhone app?

Thanks

I haven't posted my complete PJB collection yet...

Nice. How are the PJB headphones? Are they really any better than any other decent headphones at reproducing bass guitar?

I rediscovered my Super Flight Case after having put it away in favor of my bigger Genz Benz rig. And now I totally fell in love with the Super Flight Case more than I ever had before.

I figured out that I prefer using my bass's preamp eq and leaving the PJB eq flat. I had been in the habit of doing the opposite (bass flat / eq at amp), but the bass's eq just puts out the right mojo and now I can't stop playing my Super Flight Case.

I'm really digging the PJB headphones. They are substantially better at handling bass than anything in their price range ($85-99), and they sound fantastic for pure listening. They isolate well, too. I loaned my to a bassist on a recording session I engineered today and she loved how they sounded (Upton bass>C414>Avalon AD2022). Much better than the Audio Technica isolated studio phones she used last week that were harsh and bass-shy.

My go-to phones for many years have been AKG K240s. I still like them a lot, and find them perfect for certain things in the studio. They have a lot of very clear, detailed high end, and I enjoy listening to music on them (and they're open-back). The PJB's handle the deep lows MUCH better than the K240s, though, and the top is a little smoother, but still very detailed and clear. I will be using them for tracking in a couple weeks. In the meantime, I've been using them for all my quiet practicing and listening.

And while I haven't A/B'd them together, I've used Sony, Shure, Sennheiser, AKG, and Audio Technicas in various studios and I'd put these up against any of them for any kind of tracking or personal practice. Definitely worth the money, in my opinion. There may be some sweeter for listening, but I wouldn't necessarily use them for bass or for studio work.
