Phil Jones MICRO 7

Hi my dudes,

I'm searching for a small combo to noodle around at home and not to stress my neighbours. It should be compact as well.
I play 5 strings and in drop somethimes. I would like 5th string to sound decent (or at least just to sound)

Is PJ MICRO 7 any good? I already have a Bighead as a headphones pre and it is pretty good for the purpose..

thanks in advance for your opinions!

I had a s-77, basically the same thing, but with twice watts and speakers. low B was gorgeous. not sure, how he m7 compares, but the best part of the s-77 was that you can turn it up and play with a quiet drummer. IME, quiet combos that don't stand to a drummer with brushes are just waste of money. you can turn down a loud combo, but not the way around.

I also own a bg-75, for almost a decade. low B is decent, without sub-sonic boom, but still articulate and defined. it's a tad quieter than the s-77, but crazy light and compact. and takes a battery for the cases, you want to play out without an electric outlet.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. I see, you use a warwick as well. I have a thumb, which have a specific sound

I also own a bg-70, for almost a decade. low B is decent, without sub-sonic boom, but still articulate and defined. it's a tad quieter than the s-77, but crazy light and compact. and takes a battery for the cases, you want to play out without an electric outlet.

yeah, my thumb 5 sounds nice in my d4. with an s-77 it was decent, but a tad boomy, you might need a hpf not to disturb the neighbors. the d4 (bg-75) is on warmer side, the s-77 is more modern sounding, both boomy and crisp, but lacking something in the mids. despite they have the same eq, to me on the d4 it's more effective, i.e. providing a wider range of usable adjustments.

Yep, the Phil Jones combos do a really nice job with the low B at reasonable volume. The input pad and limited indicator are helpful in getting the gain right. I recall that there may be a HPF built in to keep everything clean and efficient…not sure on that, but I demoed one with a Stingray 5 and was really impressed.

I like mine, it fits in the spot it was chosen for. It came super boxed, and sounded almost ok. I turned the middle control down a tad, and it went from sounding cruddy to pretty darn good. I am hesitant about purchasing their $100 guitar cord.

I’ve found the phil jones cabs I’ve played in the past at music stores to be fairly Mid heavy and therefore decently “loud” but not really all there when you want to dial in a nice low boom along with that mid.
