Never heard of him. (Genuine comment)
I gather he is famous in the US?
What band was he in?
That would be the Grateful Dead... kinda famous, yes.
Please forward to Phil immediately. He'll get a big kick out of it.
Happy Healthy Revelatory New Year, Cats & Kittens!
This is a good 'un to start the year off right:
Joe: Thanks for bringing this one back to the top. But really? Seastones? To each his own! Here's another unheralded performance: 3/23/72.
A very cool minor interpretation of Feelin' Groovy pops up around 15:15 and eventually evolves into a killer hoe-down (or is it a hootenanny?) Major key version of Feelin' Groovy at 16:15 (Theme hits for real at 17:06).
outstanding Dark Star! and of course, Phil's tone...
them's the days...
Any philheads here play the new guild starfire bass? Any thoughts or soundbites I could check out?
My guess would be that you need a neck pickup for effective 'Philbombs', but maybe that is just me.
Yeah, I wouldn't want a single bridge pickup for doing the Phil thing. I generally favor the neck pup with the bridge blended to taste. I've also heard there have been a lot of QC problems with those Starfires. Definitely wouldn't buy one sight unseen.
sigh, Thats how I feel spacebassed. Being as broke as I am, I dont know if I can take the risk with it. And apparently no one in Wisconsin sells these. Maybe ill just darkstar my squire?
Maybe try looking for the '90s Starfire reissue branded as Dearmond? I know the body shape is not exact, but they were routed for two pickups.
There are other options. You could mod an Epi Jack Casady bass?
Yea ive been lookin for a dearmond but theyre harder to find than I wouldve thought.
Unfortunately the jack casady bass is long scale. Too bad, id love to have the silver burst, its a beauty.
Wisconsindead, I might be able to help you out on your quest to Phil-hood. I'll PM you.
Congratulations to Phil for becoming a grandfather!!
Phil's son Brian welcomed his own son into the world yesterday... Levon Lesh (named after the late, great Levon Helm, of course).
