Furthur put on a great show last night.
"Wheel" was simply amazing with Phil dropping bombs like crazy!
And the beginning of "Shakedown Street" he dropped a note that made the place go wild.

Saw further last year at the Wanee festival. They did a tribute to Levon Helm which was awesome. I would love to see them again.
Man, that is just awesome. And TRI studios is really on the forefront.....the high quality video and sound stream is something else. It's like a concert in your living room.

Although the Telefunken has been rumored to be his pick, he also uses a Dunlop Stubby triangle pick. I got one when I saw him play at Terrapin Crossroads:
That's the one. They are essentially equivalent. I'll have to pull out my stubby and provide a photo comparison. Wait, that came out a little wrong.
Yes, I was going to say they look very similar! I have been using the Dunlop green 1.5 mm but I think this pick helps get closer to the Phil tone, but I'm not used to it yet.

As one who first hand witnessed the 89 invasion of the Hampton coliseum (darkstar run) I can attest that Phil bombs are real. VERY REAL
I don't understand why someone would be annoyed by the term "Phil bombs"....perhaps they've never experienced them and so don't relate. And to discard an opportunity to listen to some great music over the use of a term seems closed minded to me.
Perhaps they are annoyed by the fact that they can't drop those sorts of bombs and make peoples' smiles pop out of their heads...

Really? I've heard all kinds of criticisms of the Dead from a wide variety of competent and excellent musicians, but I've never heard this before. Usually the criticism is that they are sloppy, drug addled and can't sing in tune or play in time, which might be true at times but misses the point. But condemning them over nomenclature of their fans is a new one on me. Slinging insults without any cogent argument behind it is a pretty useless and childish endeavor, though.
Maybe "regular musician types" is code for weekend warrior metal players or some of that sort, so that in reality, it's a reflection of "My taste is better than your taste, nyah, nyah, nyah."
So, what are you really trying to say?
PS. While Phil bomb might have become a cliché, the truth is that it was a pretty unique experience back in the day. Once the Modulus/Meyer combination was put together, it was a bass experience that was not heard elsewhere, in terms of the impact, which really resembles a bomb going off. Having been a couple blocks away from the Old Bailey in London when the IRA blew it up in the early 70s, I know what a bomb feels like. Yeah, it's like that.
