Yeah, I wasn't too wowed by the soloing, but he does have a different way of weaving his bass lines - I also think he's best when doing counter-melody to someone else's melody.
My biggest beef w/ the Dead is that when I hear Phil Lesh talk about music and what he's trying to achieve on the bass in the Dead's music, I think "Yeah! Cool! This guy gets it! I really want to hear some of that!"
...and then I listen to the music, and his bass playing is indistinguishable from modal wanking. None of the musically substantive stuff he talks about is audible in his playing, at least not beneath the morass of noodling.
Awesome. I made that video! I was so proud when it got featured on JamBase for Phil's birthday last year. Also I disagree with everyone here, I think Phil had some very interesting solos like 2-26-77 and (not featured in this one) 8-6-74 Eyes
