Wow. 8 year old thread. I will throw in my 2 cents worth. I was fortunate enough to see him twice when I lived in Germany. Awesome shows both times. Back then everything was stadium seating so my buddies and I would always get to all the shows that morning and sit a the door or gate and drink until they opened up, so we were always in the front row. I always took my camera, as this was back before they put a stop to that. I wish i could show you guys the pictures of that show I took from the front row, but when I was younger and dummer and not thinking properly, going through a divorce, I left them at home, never to see them again. Oh yeah there were other shows and pictures from the front row. Some guy named Freddie Mercury. Some other guy named Bon Scott, on AC/DC's first tour, you know, stuff like that. Now if you will excuse me, I am going to go kick my own ass. :bawl::(

Enjoying this thread guys let's keep it going........

Am a long time Lizzy/Phillo fan, saw 'em in 83 at Leeds, saw Grand Slam a bit later and now I try to catch the next best thing Limehouse Lizzy, uk based tribute act......

I was a fifteen year old boy in '83 and the sight & sound of Phil Lynott on that stage will stay with me til the day I die

Although the Robertson/Gorham era is the "definitive" Thin Lizzy, I like the Eric Bell era (the first three albums) a lot, too. Check out "Little Girl In Bloom" from Vagabonds Of The Western World (or the even better version on BBC Sessions)- wonderful bass line on a beautiful song. Most people only think of Lizzy's rock anthems, but Phillip was a great songwriter who wasn't afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve (see "Dublin" or "Philomena").

Shades of a Blue Orphanage is my favorite This Lizzy album. I guess it came out in the early 70’s. Buffalo Girl is one of favorite songs of all time. I just heard Thin Lizzy doing Whiskey In a Jar(o) in a movie or something in the last couple days. I got to see them while I was in the Air Force stationed in Germany. It had to be the early 70’s. They were opening for the Jeff Beck Group (The Rough And Ready era). They were pretty much booed (whistled) off stage ‘cause the crowd was there to see Jeff Beck. I always like Lynott’s songwriting – you could tell a lot of songs were written by a bass player.
