Phil Petillo, R.I.P.

Master Luthier Phil Petillo, of Ocean Township, NJ has passed. Many of the luthier's here will know of his custom work with intricate inlays done by him and his son David (Invalid Link Removed). He was also a co-patent holder of the aluminum necks used by Kramer and Vacarro, and held numerous patents on musical instruments including the Petillo fret.

Phil was Bruce Springsteen's personal luthier and guitar technician. Since the early days of his career he was the only one to do work on any of Bruce's prized telecasters and broadcasters.

Phil was also an inventor of note, holding patents on medical micro devices that are used today to save lives.

My thoughts and prayers go out to David Petillo and his family at this time.

I just got off the phone with David. I'm blown away by this.

Phil was a christian, a gentleman, a genius, a master craftsman, and more than anything, a wonderful husband and father for his wife and family. I am blessed to have had him as a friend for the last 25+ years.

I am in tears right now. David has requested that we all send our prayers.

But it is good to see that he has left something valuable behind (his ideas) and has managed to influence peoples lives in so many different ways.

Our Prayers are with David and family, Phil did many awsome things some us can barely imagine. God keep him.

I was friends with Phil for nearly 30 years. I have two custom guitars
that I will cherish forever. He had reworked my '78 Rick 4001 bass.
It was always a adventure going to the shop. I would spend hours talking.

He was an inspiration on how to live one's life. I know his faith was strong and he will be missed personally and professionally.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family. This world just got a bit
less beautiful.
