Philly Area

Kind of surprised, I've known Glenn for quite a long time; his old band and mine played lots of double-bills together. Always known him to be a friendly, straight-dealing guy.

Didn't know he was going full-time online. But it's no surprise; as a long-time retail employee and manager myself, I can understand that one can have bad days, especially dealing with tire-kickers of high-end gear by folks who have no intention of buying (or worse yet, trying the gear at your store and then buying it online from a mass-retailer who undercuts your margins and can sell tax-free.) We actually had a discussion about that subject last time I was at his store a few months ago (and met Gerald Veasley, who just happened to be hanging out there.)

Harbison and the Blvd... You didn't ask me, but I know it well.. The Pathmark - near Unruh St.. My family used to live back behind there.. I grew up in Holmesburg... Yep, Good times.

Hey DanBass. Just getting back to this thread - been away for a couple of days. Yeah, the Pathmark! At one time it was a Food Fair. We used to play stickball on the back side of the lot (not the Boulevard side) because there were never any cars back there. We actually painted bases, foul lines, and distance down the left field line on the wall of the old S&H Green Stamps store.

Back then, it seemed like there was a band on every block. You could hear them jamming during summer when everyone has their windows open.

Too funny!

Yeah Mark, it was kind of a surprise to me too. Seemed like he really liked the face to face retail part of his business. I suspect that the tire-kickers were really a big reason for him wanting to go all-online.

I've been there more than a few times - crabby every time. Bought my GB shuttle 12.0 there (overpaid but supported the local guy). Not much customer appreciation and sorta angry.

That's funny to hear someone else say that because I felt the same way before and everyone else is always talking about how cool he is so i was a little thrown off. I kinda got the feeling he was an elitist I thought I was a dope since I'm a "rocker type" but eventually realized that in just insecure and hes just not the chatty type. As far as customer service goes, he's always been very helpful to me and even gave me a free gig bag when I bought my Squier VM Jazz V!

That's a good description VeganThump - he's just not the chatty type:D

So true about the bands.... The rivalries between bands, it was a trip... So right about one on every block!

The legend that was local bands like Bewildered Earth.

At Harbison, you were a straight shot down the Blvd towards Tyson Ave and then the Empire Rock Club. Good times.

That was a great neighborhood. I miss those days.

I for some reason can't recall where exactly the Empire Rock Club was. Was that on Tyson?

Funny thing, two weeks ago coming home from Bass Specialties, 95 was backed up all the way from Woodhaven Rd to Bridge Street. I took an alternate route down the Boulevard to Harbison so I got a chance to do a little excursion through the old neighborhood and past my parents old house. Lots of good memories. As you say that was a great neighborhood!

I guess we're a bit off-topic but I'm really enjoying talking about the old neighborhood:). I may have to PM you

Definitely - my apologies for derailing the thread! :ninja:

Opposite of my dealings with Glenn. He was always very helpful and friendly. Even got Jim Bergantino on the phone while I was there with a cab that was misbehaving. He and Jim were determined to make sure that I was happy. I left with a cab in perfect working order.
Bought a pair of used Aggy's there and a Shuttle 6.0 and 9.0.
The deals were fair and I'd rather pay a fair price locally than a cheap price mail-order.
I will miss the store.

Glad someone snapped up that NV610 or I'd have been "forced" to get it!

Same here 9mmMike. I've always found him to be helpful and friendly. I've taken advantage of several deals where he gets a great price from company reps and he passes that right on to the customer. Bought an M80 gig bag there on one of those type of deals.
