Photo Evolution of a pedalboard.

I, like many others have had a pedalboard in a state of constant change for awhile now. Here are the different stages of mine captured in glorious color!

This was the first "monster board". A Warwick Rockcase. I liked this setup, but found the Rockcase kind of sagged in the middle and felt spongy to stomp on the pedals.

I then graduated to a PT Pro which was fun but once I had her all together, realized that the flight case didnt even fit in my car and took up more space then a bass case. It was over the top but sure looked cool!

This year I sold off most of my pedals to fund a new bass and of course, have been buying new pedals ever since. I forced myself to stick with a PT Jr to limit the size. This was "version one":

And finally, I missed having a compressor, and realized that I never used the Sans Amp. Also having the Fulltone and the Rust ride was silly as they sound too similar, and the Barge unit was only being used as a junction box. So voila! My "finished" pedalboard....for now :

if my board was ever finished id post pics..but i have a fear of finishing it, cause i know im going to need a full size hardshell bass case to keep all of my pedals safe to gig..

Thanks for the photo essay, Crabby. What's the signal path on the final iteration?

Bass goes into the wah, auto Q, comp, Fulltone, phase90, tuner, out to amp. I am pretty picky about the order and have found this to work best for me. The comp doesnt squash the squelch of the wah and filter and doesnt mess with the oversrive tones either.

I got rid of the Q Tron because it had to have a comp after it to make it useable due to the volume spike, it was huge, and it only played nice when perfectly adjusted to each bass. I would have to reset ther sensitivity between passive, active basses and although it could sound great, the MXR just simply works better.

I could always find a reason to get a bigger board and more pedals but my theory was that if I forced myself to have a small board, I would only keep pedals on it that actually get used. We'll see how long I can stick to it! haha

That dumptruck is impressive. My little guy has taken a few chunks of the walls out before it was relegated to the back yard!


Dancehallclasher's board was one of the inpspirations to be as it always looked so tidy and simple. Cool to see it posted here.

Hey Crabby, what do you think of the clone theory on bass. I've been wanting to get one but have not been able to try it in bass.

The clone theory had a nice juicy tone that remined my of heavily chorused 80's fretless bass. But it added some serious hiss when turned on. It was by far the noisiest pedal I had. I have since moved on. I actually just bought the big yellow MXR stereo chorus and really like it. It has a switch that allows only the highs to be effected and leaves the low end in tact. its perfect for bass and I really don't know why more bass players don't use it.

I have no room for it on my board right now but it will likely make an apearance at some point. the 18v power requirement is also a bit of a pain but it really is a nice chorus and should be checked out.
