Is it not possible to save the stacked bridge parts, for example, save it as a img, and use that as a single part, the bridge?
well...that would be possible, except that thndr only sent me the Photoshop file of one bass....just to show how many layers he uses. even if I combined the layers, I would have one bridge, one body, one pickup, one neck, etc. and it would take too much memory for thunder to send each of his layers, since that would be thousands of layers worth of stuff, a photoshop file that big prbably couldn't be e-mailed.the bass he sent me, he used at least 10 layers just for the body, one for strings, one for the shadow of the strings, etc. all his bass photoshop stuff is probably at least a gig or so.

the vinyl pickguard is COOL!!

That is the coolest idea I've ever seen for a pickguard!

Isn't it? That's why I want to steal the idea as soon as possible. Who knew, those "guitar" forums can be useful as well! :D

It's not like you can easily find a p-bass-routed jazz pickguard around here. I guess could pay around US$70 for a Invalid Link Removed black pearl (including shipping and the brütal Brazilian import taxes), but the LP DIY project sounds more fun anyway.

Of course, the decision of carving up a record to turn into a pickguard comes with its own little moral dillemma. You can:
  1. Use a cool custom-looking record, like those colored Bad Brains ones that were suggested. But those are usually rare/expensive, and it would be a pity to carve them up. :hmm:
  2. Use something of personal significance, like your first record or something favorite. But then risk feeling guilty everytime you look at your bass. After all, you destroyed something you love for the sake of appearances. :(
  3. Use the cheapest bargain bin special you can find, but then risk having to explain over and over why the heck your bass says "Abba's Greatest Hits" on it or whatever.
  4. Use the most horrifyingly awful bargain bin special you can find. Then you can have an ironic laugh everytime someone notices, and rest contented that you made the world a better place by making sure no one is going to hear the garbage in that particular record again. :bassist:

Anyhow, it's very DIYish, punk rock kinda project either way. Not terribly original (it has been pointed out there's a guitar with a LP pickguard in the cover of Nirvana's Bleach), but still a cool way to personalize your instrument IMO.

I'm tending toward options 3 or 4. Let's see what I can find in pawn shops to kick start the project. :smug:

Stickk, you should put a normal P, or a flipped P in between the J's. A '51 P pup is very one tone only, from what I hear.

I think what I'm going to do is wire two J-pups in series, and put a '51 in the neck. Then I'll wire two dual concentric knobs (one for the "Jazzbucker", one for the '51). Then adding a coil split and a series/parallel switch for all of the pickups (so it'll be like a triple-coil humbucker in series).

Sartori, Here's your Gaelic Rickjazz bass.

*TOUCH IT AND MAKE IT BIGGER* (...that's what she said)

Where could you have got an idea like that...
