I use photoshop. I just save the files with unmerged layers so I can just edit each individual layer as needed.
Nope I just play around doing photoshop stuff. Here's some of my other nonbass stuff:

Five string Jazz bass in surf green that's a reliced some, maple fretboard, and dual P pickups. And if I could get an aged white pearloid for the pickguard, that would also be great, but regular is fine.

Imagine this with one less string. It's more of a '59 Cadillac pink. I know, the pickups and stuff are wrong, but the impression is lasting.

There's one called GIMP. It's alright, but I hate the interface.
