I really like the arctic white and maple. I was about to take the plunge a while ago when I found a '50s Honey Blonde.

I like the feel of the gold anodized aluminum. I'm guessing the simulated is plastic and the more expensive is either the real material (aluminum) or closer to it.

Either way it will look sharp. Tort would look killer too! That's the way I was going to go (tort) before I found this one used.

ok, so i figured out a timeline.
im going to finish my build that i had planned before this.
if i get into a serious band, i will pull the trigger on this bass.
because right now, i dont see the need for it.
even though i really really really really really want it.

GAS sucks, there needs to be a pill or a patch or something for this.

ok TB, be honest. is the 50s pbass just a glorified mexi standard? am i paying $200 more (if i buy new) just to get a different color?

My lust for a white P ran deep, ever since I saw DeeDee Ramone play one on a video way back when.

The color of the MIM standard is NOT, not not not like that pic. It's more 'creamy' and mellow, it looks very nice. The pickguard(even though you might ditch it) is a much more subtle color as well, as is the neck. The whole thing just looks fantastic.

The pic makes the colors look like a Squier Affinity or something. There is nothing cheap looking about the appearance of the standard.

I can't really capture the color very well with camera, but no, IMO it is not worth it to get the 50s one.

BTW, keep your eye on musician's friend if you are going to buy online--lots of "used" standard Ps show up every week. I just saw a condition 2 LPblue/maple one for like $100 off.

yeah the used section is familar with me.
i noticed the pickguard at one i played was a little more off white.
the artic white bass with that white PG screams WHITE!
i figured the 50s p was mostly a cosmetic difference compared to the standard.
not worth $200 IMO. unless i find either one at the "right price" like used, GC or MF have a huge sale, or i find one in the trash, im gonna keep put for now.

i think out loud, and TB sometimes gets in the crossfire.

I have a Honey Blonde 50s and it is sweet all around. Transluscent so the grain shows, and the pickguard is anondized aluminum. Also, the tuners on the 50s are reverse and I was under the impression that the pup was an American Std.

I haven't seen or played the more recent MIM P Standards. But I had a Fender MIM V standard in Arctic White and it is definitely closer to Oly White than White White.

I went through the same thing you're going through. But for finding the 50s used, I would have got the Standard. Have you played either?

The pups, pots, tuners, are certainly WAY better than my '01 MIM Standard P, I can't speak for the newer Standards ... I'm assuming the '50s P's are still better.

As mentioned above, the '50s tuners are reverse tuners, like they were in the '50s.
And the neck is thicker, much like the '50s P's.
