Pick Muting Technique?

Just had a general question: I've been playing fingerstyle almost my entire bass life and I just picked up a pick (get it? Haha :D) the other day and really enjoy it too. But, what is the general technique for muting when crossing strings? Could not seem to get that down - normally I use a floating thumb when playing fingerstyle but obviously that would not work with a pick... help appreciated!

While the right edge of the hand is muting the unplayed strings, the left hand fingers are muting unplayed strings above the picked strings.
