On the fence ... I have owned some of these before but am looking at different options . I prefer not to mod as I could just spend the extra cash on a step up model. I can try most fenders but all the others are out without a road trip. I am looking at new in the box basses.

I'm a hobbyist ... Not a pro or playing for money ... My kids are musical as well and I hope this is something we always have in common

I voted the Squier CV because I hear good things from them. What kind of amp do you have? Maybe you could save of the money for a better amp or something.

Genz Benz shuttle 6.0 210t ... and an Ampeg 210 combo ...

I had Jazz basses before ... branched out and tried other basses ... and am now realizing thats all I need ... and my Squier VM P.

I like my classic series 70's jazz. It is much better quality than the standard MIM I feel. The 60's classic is the same way. Now when I bought mine they were only something like $699.00 so about $150 more expensive than the standard MIM which was a no brainer for me. Now they run upwards of $800, so maybe a little harder to justify the cost. Also it's not hard to come across a used MIA for about $850

Only mods I have done are installing a Gotoh 201 bridge and a thumbrest.
