I played with a pic untill I heard Steve Harris , I played with my fingers soon after, of course using a pick , was the Attack , the speed . ? Your Fingers (both) right and left can, no ! will eventually be fast if not crazyfast : ?D , you'll have so many options with Tones , your timing improves .
And best of all the other BASS players - r jealous
guitar players - Disrespect full
drummers - will respect ,
Vocalist/frontmanorgirl
won't give a damn.
So drop ,throw, melt, or forget about them all together and practice, practice , practice.
And if ya do use a pick , Kool
To each their own.

I was always a finger player up until about 2 years ago. I tried a pick and found I could get a "punchier" and more clear sound with a pick that I liked. It was like starting over to get used to that style though. Now pick playing about 80-90% of the time.

And I as I became more familiar with a pick I found the pain in my arthritis was greatly reduced too. Maybe I'll get a couple more comfortable years of playing out of the change too.

Fingerstyle causes my arthritis to kick up a fuss, so, pick style it is.

Sorry to hear about your arthritis
It sks having to deal with any kind of Injury to our hands , fingers , elbows , wrist.
I deal with tennis elbow on the right arm , No I don't play tennis
I tore the 1st knuckle tendon on my left hand tucking a cover in a sofa.
It took 3 months with a splint.
That had a big impact on my neck work. It still does
I've broken every knuckle on every finger on both hands through the years.
When I think about it
I'm lucky I can still play at all.
Don't get me wrong
I'm not judging
I played Using a pick only , for like
20 - 25 yrs .
When I switched to fingers
I was hooked.
Again I'm sorry to hear about your arthritis.
You're a genuine Bass player
That's for sure

A year and a half ago, I broke a bone in my plucking hand and had a hard cast. Only my index finger had a clear path out, but I was able to play gigs with that one finger. (Fortunately, I'm better with fingers than a pick. A pick would have been impossible.)
We bassists are definitely hardcore!

fkn right we are !!
I'm an all round Bassist , If a band or song has killer bass I'm all over it but I'm a metal thrash prog technical bass player.
But I mostly play heavy hard fast originals
I'm faster and more than heavy with my fingers , than I ever was with a pick.
If I pick up a pick now , it's dropped on the floor in a few seconds anyway.

Have a good one bro
