Ok so I have a traben 5 string chaos obsession and I don't like the rock field pick ups that are in it. It has five knobs volume,blend,bass,mid,treble and a active passive switch. Can I buy a soap bar pick up and it work with my preamp and knobs. So what I am trying to say is can I buy a pick up and be sure that it will work smoothly with my preamp.

Pick up and preamp/eq q

If the preamp has a high impedance input, you can use any pickups you want.
On the off chance the stock pickups are active, and the preamp was spec'd for a low input impedance, low impedance pickups would be necessary.

Measure it.
Firstly, check the pickups. If they are not active, then the preamp cannot have a low input impedance.
So check the bass when I flip the switch to passive. Cuz I have and the pick ups work just not all the nknobs the blend and the bass work and the volume but not the mid or the treble
You're not concerned with any switching or wiring schemes; only whether the pickups are active or passive. Active pickups will connect to a battery, while passives will not.
If it plays w/o a battery in it, then they are passive pickups combined with a 'true bypass' switch for the eq.
