Pick users...

I use the little red Dunlop Jazz III's for bass (but I can't stand them for guitar) - I think they give a bit softer attack than my Fender 351 Heavy guitar picks because they're made of softer plastic.

For uptempo tunes were I want "finger-tip" tone but can't keep up, I use a leather pick I made from an old belt - it's nearly 1/8" thick and sounds very similar to my fingers.

*I should note that I'm primarily a guitar player (using a pick 98% of the time) and seem to have one loud finger and one quiet one on my right hand. Hey - I'm workin' on it! :^)
