In mid-February 1968, the California Ford Dealers (Ford Dealer Advertising Fund) began to market a factory-built, limited-edition Mustang, called the GT/CS, or "California Special".

Ski Country Special Mustang

In the winter of 1967, the Denver Sales District created a promotional package called the Ski Country Special. Colors available on these cars included: Aspen Red, Vail Blue, Winter Park Turquoise, Loveland Green and Breckenridge Yellow. This promotion was also available on the Ford Fairlane and Galaxie.

Unique features on the Ski Country Special included: ski rack, “coffee bar” (luggage rack), limited slip axle, unique emblem and two snow tires. On December 8th, 9th, 10th, and 15th of 1966, the advertisements appeared in the Rocky Mountain News.

I sold it last year. Over the course of a couple of years, I spent a ton of money replacing stuff on it, and it wasn't worth keeping (it had 126K miles on it). It was a beautiful car, and a blast to drive, but honestly it wasn't well made.

At least you got a lot of miles out of it. I have had my 1998 Firebird for 22-1/2 years and it has 36,000 miles on it. Most of those miles were put on in the first 6 years. I only put a few hundred miles a year on it now. I should drive it more and it really needs a good wax, engine cleaning, and new speakers.

I had an uncle that owned a Cortina. I don't know where he bought it (being in Alabama.) It was British racing green with white stripes. Odd.

These days it seems you have to go after market to get the really cool stuff. Early 2000's C5 with aftermarket '53 corvette panels. I saw one of these once and did a double take, very cool, very sexy ride. Its ashame they cant make this for mass consumption, I bet they would get a ton of orders
