4 doors are more popular with today's youth than they were with our generation.
When my daughter was in high school (2013-2016), she drove a 4 door 07 Chevy Cobalt. I bought it cheap with a blown engine and fixed it for her. Anyway, at the same time my Mom had a 2 door 08 Cobalt she was trading in on a new Subaru, so I offered my daughter the chance at the 2 door car..... I said we would get trade in values on both Cobalts and I would pay my Mom the difference and we'd keep the 08.
My daughter's response..... "Thanks, but I like the 4 doors..... it would be too hard to get my friends in & out of a 2 door car."
My keyboard player in Germany had one with a rag in the filler tube as he couldn't get a new cap from the states for a month.
I told him he could drive it backwards into the Fulda gap with the tanks.

From the back it looks like a next gen Pinto concept.
The NSU appears to be inspired by the Mazda RX-500, also a rotary engine car. Gandini's design seems more practical, since it can transport 4 people.
To me the nose of the NSU Trapeze is somewhat reminiscent of the Citroën SM, a car that was actually produced. It had a Maserati engine.

I see some influences from the Lancia Stratos in that car.

The Stratos was also designed by Marcello Gandini ("known for his designs at the Italian design agency Bertone, including the Lamborghini Miura and the Lancia Stratos").
