Pickguard help for an ugly Precision Bass

Hello there!

I am looking to buy my first Fender bass and I have found one that sounds incredible to me.

It is the Fender Deluxe Precision Bass Special. I played it against a few Squiers and various Fenders and this one just sounded the best to me. I've had so much fun visiting the music store just to play this monster!

My only problem with it is that it is (in my opinion) a very ugly bass. I know that aesthetics aren't everything, and I still intend on buying it, but I was wondering what you guys think I could do pickguard-wise to make this bass look better. I like gold pickguards on certain basses, but it definitely doesn't look good with this metallic blue paint job. I've had it suggested to me by one of the sales guys at the music store to go for a vintage mint green pickguard, but I'm not sure how that will look. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In before all the Tort-istas!. I'm partial to the cream-black-cream one on my 3 tone-burst P, but a white one might look nice, too. And there's always black, or a blue one for a 2-tone look..

I don't know why this bass makes me think of Jet Harris of the Shadows, but I dig it the way it is. Don't rush to do the same thing as the Joneses. That thing is unique, and already has style and class.

Solid contrasting color probably your best bet. The cream pg sounded interesting.

I misread this at first as the Tort-isazi. You know, the cliff-dwelling ones that disappeared a thousand years ago.

Black pearloid would be my vote.

If it were a maple fretboard, I'd suggest tortoise shell, but since it's rosewood, maybe a white or vintage white pearloid would work.
