Pickguard suggestions.. Squier VM P bass

The neck on my guitar is stock. No mods were done. That is the maple neck that is available with Squier bass guitars.
Since it was mentioned earlier, here's a pic of a natural-finish Jazz with chrome pickguard. And ashtrays. A little bit of chrome overload, but like someone once told me about motorcycles...."If it don't move, CHROME IT"!

If it were white, I would change it in a heartbeat. The black looks fine. Elegant without drawing attention to itself. The tort would also. Every thing else would be an over the top, novelty look in my opinion. So, leave it. You are done! I have 2 of those VM P's by the way. One has the Duncan Designed PUPS that it came with. The other has the Fender Original '62 PUP, which I like better...Good players. Enjoy.
Love the look with the ashtray. I already have the cover, but want to replace my black PG with the "aged cream pearl" pickguard.
Can you tell me where you got it and was it a "drop in" fit?
It was one of those misc. ("from China") sellers on eBay. Cost was about $3.00, so I took a chance. It ended up fitting like a glove with no modifications. That was around three years ago, tho, and I don't remember the seller's name. They're probably still around on the 'bay.
I found a bunch of those cheapies on eBay. I'm going to pick up several different colors. Did you have to add copper shielding over the control cavity?
I'm going to order 4 colors:
- Pearl White
- Aged Cream Pearloid
- Dark Brown Tortoise Shell - my potential favorite
- 3-ply Black (since my stock PG is warped)
These are nice looking basses. I don't understand why you see a million of the VM J's but so few of these. Why did they discontinue? I need to find one of these myself. If I did I am think ing I would add a tort pickguard and then would play it hard and put it away wet for 30 years so it would look just like George Porter Jr's
I believe there was some cheap silver shielding on the pick guard. I replaced it with the copper tape I usually use anyway.
You probably know this already, but be sure to count how many pick guard screws are used on your guard before you order from China. They usually list how many holes are in their replacement items. Good luck!
I also don't understand why they discontinued the VM Precision (Amber). It might have been due to the cost of those maple bodies. The 70s Jazz Squier is still available, though. Who knows?
