Pickguardian Rickenbacker question...

I want to purchase a Pickguardian Bridge Pickup Plate, and I noticed how the website states that there are two versions: version 1 that "fits 90% of the 4000 series"; and one that is "1/8 in. narrower". Although the site does post a template to download and compare to your stock one, I don't see how I could accurately align the template to the screw holes/body cavity without removing the stock chrome ring, which I don't want to do (My printer is also somewhat broken at the moment, so it doesn't really matter anyway).

If anyone could tell me if a 2008 4003 would require version 1 or 2, I'd appreciate it.

P.S. Not sure if this matters but mine is the newer design, with the thinner and longer inlays; possibly other differences I'm unaware of as well...

man that thing would hinder my playing SO much. I stick my thumb right in the hole and on the bridge pup and play when Im on the E and A strings and move it ever so slightly to get to the D and G strings.

I know thats not much of an answer for you, so I guess this is just a free bump :hmm:

I got a mirrored set of pickguards for my '92 4003 rick from PG + the bridge pick up plate.

I don't remember having to do this at all. The choice was cut and dried from what I remember.

oh yea, I have seymore duncans in mine.

Get version 1 it's the most common.
Or you can call them, they are pretty helpful.

I'm still not used to playing with my fingers on it tho.
it's pretty awkward. You basically have no thumbrest and have to compensate.

Dude, I hadn't noticed the mod on the pickguardian site until you posted about it here.

I bought the 4003 version (mirrored) and it fits perfectly! Looks really great and makes playing it a helluva lot easier!!

Since I only play the Ric with a pick, it is perfect!

As to YOUR question - the 4003 plate should fit your 4003 easily!

I've had two Rics, a '05 and an '08 , I used the 90% one both times. I'm sure he would take it back was it incorrect. . I remember speaking to him on the phone and he seemed like an upstanding businessman

Well, truth be told, I never had a problem per se with the Ric covers...merely played behind the pickup (again, with a pick) but wanted to be able to travel up and down the strings without the "hindrance" of the covers,

At least for me, the pickguardian cover was the answer!

Hey I found an answer that looks good for after you remove the bridge cover on your Ric. it is a plexi with mirror appearance at Pickguardian. they do great work just Google them. I don't think I can post a website on here. It also has a nice lip on it to rest your thumb, that is were I place my thumb is on the pick up. This will do until someone fabricates a chrome or stainless replacement cover for the pick up. I may do that I have a friend with a machine shop. hope this helps. for the time being this plexi fitting comes in two pieces and look much better than a black hole in the center of my mapleglo.
