PICKS ANYONE??

I never use a pick, but on occasion I use my index finger fingernail as a pick. I keep this nail slightly longer, just for this purpose.

This enables me to get the two most important benefits of picks (IMO) – 1., a very bright, "pick-y" sound, and 2., the super-thumpy, right-hand-as-mute picking.

Works great, and I never have to fumble for a pick mid-song.

I use a pick very rarely - when a song sort of needs it. When I learned, it was pretty much a standard thing to learn picking in addition to using your fingers just so you have the option there. I usually use a Dunlop .73 or the thickest they make - I forget the number.

I f you want a smoother sound from a pick try the Dunlop Nylon 1mm. I have never had one break and because of their flexability they have a smoother sound. for a crisp sound I like the green tortex.

I use various picks depending on the situation and the sound required. Many people think that a pick is a pick is a pick, but a different pick (whether size, shape, thickness or material) can change your sound completely.

They're expensive at $15.00 each, but they're amazing. I've been using them for 18 months or so and have bought three. Two I have in my pockets right now, one I gave to Sonny T from the NPG. No idea what he thought of them, but the important thing is you don't lose them, you only give them away when drunk :)
