pickup hieght discrepency

Hey guys. Dumb question i think...but hey, why not?

On my bass, my neck pickup is about 1 cm lower then the bridge for an even, balanced tone. Is that normal?

sounds normal to me, my jazz bass is the same way

It is very common to have the neck pickup lower, but some peopel prefer it even and some peopel prefer it higher. It is just tonal preference.

There is less movement of the string nearer the bridge so by its placement, your bridge pickup is not generating as large a signal as the neck pickup. Having the neck pickup further from the string than the bridge pickup will help balance their outputs.
