pickup ring or pickguard

I've had a cheap plastic "chrome" pickup trim ring on this bass for years "DarkStar" Peavey T-45 bass. The routed cavity for the stock pickup is wider than the DarkStar so it needed a wider trim ring to cover the cavity.
I made a wood ring but I'm not happy with the color ... I was trying to match the rosewood neck color and got close but just doesn't look right to me.
my plan "B" is to go back to a plastic trim ring but I'm also considering a pickguard. The top is flat around the pickups but has a slight curve toward the perimeter of the body. any thoughts and/or advice on the practicality and issues to consider in making a pickguard would be appreciated. I am attaching a photo of the guitar and the pickguard (or trim ring) material. feel free to comment on the. color. match to the body.

The ring looks OK to me. If the wood color bothers you, maybe swap it out for something darker like ebony, stained wood or black pickguard material.
I personally wouldn't bother doing a full pickguard. That wood with the burst looks pretty to me and that "slight curve" you describe makes me nervous. I like pickguards sometimes but bad ones can really ruin the look of an instrument IMHO. (In this case, I suppose a very skillfully executed approximation of a T-40 pickguard could work.)
Nice bass! (I'd love to try another DarkStar/Bi-Sonic axe.)

My thought is, if the wood is beautiful, don't cover it up with a pick guard. If it's ugly or painted, go for it.

the wood pickup ring color looks better in the photo than it does on the bass. I was trying to match the rosewood fingerboard but the color is not right.
On the other hand, the plastic sheet looks much better in reality than it does in the photo... a little more sparkle and depth.
I think you guys have the right idea.
Making a pickup ring from the plastic sheet is by far the easiest and probably best looking option.... thanks for your input. I'll post a pic when it's done.
