Here's a question that may have been asked -


J bass set up-


1) Has anyone ever taken the neck pick up and moved it to the back?

2) Has anyone ever wired the bridge pickup out of phase just to see if the bass cancellation goes away?

The only reason I ask #2 because I never use both pickups full because of the inherent bass cancellation.

I would think if you moved the neck pickup to the back you would lose all output from that pickup since there aren't any strings on the back of the bass. However you might be able to rig up a unique belt buckle that could interact with the pickup somehow.

My expert advice on this topic is complete, now moving on to the misinformation thread to spread some wisdom over there as well.

1. If you mean putting the neck pickup in the bridge pickup's route, that cannot be done on a standard Jazz bass. The pickups are different sizes.

2. Phase switching is only going to make your tone thinner. There will be little low end left at all.

Yes. Now I remember about the sizes. But on the phase, there's already a cancelation when both are turned up. Throwing one out won't help?

It is possible to get a beefier tone with a pickup out of phase (I have done so using a Peavey T-40), though I have not been able to pull it off with both of the T-40 pickups in the signal coil setting, so I doubt it would work well on a Jazzzzzz bass.

It gives you a very weak, nasal tone. The opposite of bassy.
