Pickups and preamp with active/passive switch for an American Jazz Deluxe?

I'm looking to make some mods on my Fender MIA Deluxe Jazz!

What pickups do you recommend?

As for a preamp, I'm looking for one with an active/passive switch, I could only find the J-Retro so far. Is it a good choice? Is there better? I read that this preamp works better with the stock pickups, is this true, won't it work fine with any decent pickups?

Thanks!

the jretro will work with most pick-ups very well!
the great advantage of the jretro is that it is easy to install, but in my opinion there are some preamps what sound better.
do you want a 2-band or a 3-band eq?
i would look at the preamps made by bartolini Invalid Link Removed

roger sadowsky's preamp is also great! actually my favorite preamp beside lakland's LH-3 preamp.
