Hey everyone, this site has been super useful to me in the past. So let's see if you folks can come through for me on this one.
Last year I did a strip down and rebuild on a 2007 Fender US Precision Deluxe with the P/J pickup config. The stock preamp was overly mid-heavy and super aggressive. Not the tone I wanted. I yanked out the stock electronics and picked up a Bartolini HR4.6AP/918 Pre-amp, The Steve Harris SPB sig pickups, and 2 Jbass single coils that would fit into the plastic housing of the Dual pickup bridge spot.
The 2 single coils had an annoying hum, So I pulled them out and put the stock pup back in. Hum disappeared.
However, what I have now is a decent neck and bridge selection, but when the blend knob is centered I lose a lot of volume, so much so that I cant play it like that in a band setting. I'd like to solve this, and I suspect this has something to do with the pickup resistance. I get pretty much the same volume from each pickup when the blend knob is 100% Neck or 100% bridge.
I suspect that I will need to swap out the SPB for something that is geared to an active pre-amp vs the passive style P-bass config.
Does this make sense? Anything else I should be looking at?
Uploading a couple of before and after pics, the paint turned out amazing.
