Pickups in early model Geddy Lee Jazz Bass

Or is that most likely impossible??

again, before the rebranding, the reissue set was the "original 62 j-bass pickup" and had flat poles like the pickups in your bass

I have a brand spanking new GL JB, and there's plenty of top, and hi-mids in the stock pups. When I got it, I replaced the dull sounding stock nickels with DR Hi-beams. It sounds exactly like an early 70s JB. I found the Seymour Duncan vintage line to deliver that subtle, laid-back 60s bass sound, and I'm using them for a JB project, which will end with a MIM classic 60s in a warm gold colour, with SD vintage pups and flats I just went to my bass tech, but forgot to take pics. The body has had 8 layers, and will hang-dry about a month or a little longer, then 2 THICK poly layers - I LOVE poly-gloss ;o) handmade tugbar in white bone, and a parchment pickguard with creme pup covers. Will post pics when it's ready Meanwhile I very much enjoy my GL, as well as my Miller Fender. All I had to do was to use a LOT of shielding tape on both - now they are dead quiet when I want it

I am the original owner.
I'm writing from a different computer than my home computer so I cannot post photos until tomorrow, but you can find photos of my GL Jazz Bass on this fourm. It was bought new in 1998. The stock pickups that came with it are not the same as the ones they are putting in the GL Jazz Bass nowdays and the ones that everyone told me were in the GL Jazz basses were the "Original Fender Jazz Bass pickups" that sure look like the ones in those basses nowdays, but those aren't the same as the ones that came with my GL Jazz bass. Maybe there was a change some years ago with the pickups and nobody really knows for sure what ones were used in those Japan made basses then, but one thing is for sure the output of the newer pickups is nowhere near what my GL Jazz Bass has. I'll most likely just get some Seymour Duncan Basslines SJB-1 pickups and try those in my CV Jazz Bass and see how those work. Problem is once you install pickups, they are yours to keep. No returns if you don't like them. I can see having three sets of pickups that won't match the ones in mt GL Jazz Bass in the real near future. Anyone want to buy some pickups??

That was five years ago... I was looking for pickups that were like those GL Jazz Bass pickups so the output would be a closer match... I've since sold the bass I was looking for those pickups for....

Zombie ALERT! Hey, I just stumbled across this thread. I bought my GL CIJ J bass June 1998. According to my papers, it came with US 62' Vintage Pickups. Very aggessive sounding. I love that bass for rock. Has always recorded well.

I have 2 original Geddy Lee signature Jazz basses. Since i have built 4 more. My original GL Jazzes have the 62 model pickups. That's what I installed into my other 4 GL Jazzes. They all are powerful, outstanding mids and wonderful low's. I run them through the Sans Amp RPM and 2 power brakes. Great distortion without sounding fuzzy. The Ric's sound great through it also. But i digress. Yes, the GL jazz basses have the original 62 fender j bass pickups in them. That's what he said that he had before they got rewound a while back.
