One tube to rule them all, and in the darkness, rectify them..

These old mercury arc rectifier tubes were used to power electric trains. Think about the power that takes. U fortunately, mercury is stupid toxic so their day has passed, but no guts, no glory, right? Imagine the world-crushing bass amp you could build with one of these monsters:

My old 5-tube radio. It's a bit scary, safety-wise, but I've since had a rocker switch installed that cuts mains power to the whole thing. These old radios often have a hot chassis when plugged in and the caps and wires are so old, but they look cool and this one still works for local AM stations:

My Vox Night Train 15W lunch box head. I use this with an Ampeg 210 for the treble side of my Rickenbacker, and of course for random guitar playing. Love watching the blue glow when powered up in the dark.

Murcury arc rectifiers weren't all that efficient, another reason they were replaced.
