Pics of tubes....

My daughter and I went to an estate sale at an old mansion this spring. There were thousands of vacuum tubes. It was a mini museum of old medical equipment, but also radios, signal generators, anything you could think of except amps.
They had huge bins of vacuum tubes for pretty cheap, but none of the standard varieties that I recognized, or I would have bought a couple dozen.

Nice. Don't see too many of these.

What do you have in there? JJ6550s? The KT88s in mine have held up for years of bi-weekly usage, once I weeded out the defective ones Eurotubes sold me and wouldn't refund. I have a set of GE6550A in storage, but the JJs are still good and since the tech that set my amp up retired there's nobody around I trust.

I believe they are 6550as, I just recently got this amp and good lord does this thing sound awesome. With a really hot output bass this amp really comes to life. Luckily I got a G&L L2000 and a music man sterling to really push it. Though any bass really sounds sweet through it, I get the whole tube thing playing through it. My other amps aren’t any slouches either though.

When I need 6SL7's, I always go for Sylvania, too. Reasonably priced, sound great.

Yep, and I did my last couple of tube preamp builds using them from the start. Most of the other ones in that pic were also killer though, actually. The National Union one is from 1947, it's just a bit microphonic but sounds really fab anyway.
