Pino on SNL W/D'Angelo

What was he playing? Looked like a P-Bass with two soapbar pickups? Think I spotted the Lakland bridgepiece too

I agree. For the first song he was playing his fiesta red P w/ tort guard, but for the second it was a red P w/ white guard and two soapbar pickups? I was wondering if it was a Lakland but didn't get a good look at the bridge. Sounded great per usual!

Hmm, that's interesting. I didn't notice that, but I only had a quick glance during both sets (everything but his head was pretty well hidden behind the male backup singers, LOL). In the first set he seemed to be playing his fiesta red and tort pickguard P Bass, but on the second set I thought I just noticed a red P Bass with a white pickguard and a maple fretboard.

The only video on youtube I found right now was a homemade video of the first set and the quality is not good enough to tell, but I'm sure some better videos will come out shortly.

EDIT TO ADD: Just saw Mstins comment, guess it wasn't a P in the second set. I'm looking forward to seeing the set again. There are some videos released by NBC but it seems like they aren't viewable outside of the US.

Give this a go: http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/...ful-performance-on-saturday-night-live-watch/

Picture from that old thread.

I think that Pino gets lost in the mix live because he's using flatwounds (or tapewounds, in this case). And this bass didn't sound any better to me that a normal P-Bass. No growl to be found.

I thought the same when he played with the John Mayer trio. . . I wished he was using rounds so I can hear more of he was doing and provide some grit and clarity. But maybe he's intentionally wanting to get lost in the mix and provide nothing but pillowy support. . .
