Pirazzi Sonic Bass Wire strings!

Has anyone ever used these strings? They're made by Pirastro, a highly respected German maker of orchestral strings.

Are they flatwound or roundwound? The website is unlear. It's pirastro.com if you want to look for yourselves.

Hmm. Seeing as how they're right next to the guitar strings section, and the MAJORITY of guitar strings are roundwound, that's what I would suspect. However, all orchestral strings are flatwound, so really I dunno. Call 'em up and ask!

Bought my Bass with them half a year ago, even now never had strings with such an energy. (Its also the new bass, i know..)

They are expensive but .. if you like that modern sound without too much highs but much boom for funky style and jazz (!) its alright.

Found this thread and wanted to know the answer myself. It says roundwound on their website now. I also emailed Pirastro a few questions and they replied that the strings are part of their standard catalog, and that they don't have any reviews or sound files to share with me.

Anyone have an opinion of these? I loved Pirastro strings when I used to play violin.

Me too! I use their cello strings and love 'em! If their electric bass strings are anything like their orchestral strings - they'll be awesome.

Pirastro sent me somewhere but now I'm at a dead end.

I just found this thread and thought pitching in with some information.

Sonic Bass are round wound. As for dealers in North America....When I last checked there was a dealer in Maine, Buckdancer's Choice who carried all of Pirastro's fretted strings but I'm not sure if they still have them in stock. Their email address is [email protected].

I just found a set of these in a tiny mom & pop shop in NY <Jan '26> (I'm in CA) they're really good rounds. The packaging reminds me of late 70's Dean Markley era marketing...I don't remember these as a younger person so maybe they didn't "sell it" properly and they went away. It's a shame. I do like them.
