Pissing off the wife

I'm a new bass player. I'll be buying an amp soon to replace a little 15w Fender that makes me ill every time I listen to the it. Any ideas on what I should do with the thing??

Anyway, I find it difficult to try an amp at high volume under normal circumstances; in a dealership for example. What I'm looking for here is some opinions on the wattage I should be looking for. I don't gig, but I'm looking for enough (clear) volume to piss off the wife. Enough to make her fear that the neighbors will call the cops on me. Enough thump to feel it in my bones when the volume is at 3 o'clock. But, also enough clarity if I want it through virtually the full range of volume.

And, if anyone would comment on the single speaker vs. multi speaker cabs, it would be a plus for me.

Any ideas on this would be appreciated.

BTW, my price range is 400-500, maybe higher for the right piece of gear. Will probably buy used from from an individual.

I would look for some used Peavey stuff. Lots of volume for the buck. I can't think of a particular head off hand, but probably in the 200 - 300 watt range with a 410 TFX or 410 TVX would probably be a pretty good pisser-offer

Yeah we sell Line 6 amps at my store the the bass stuff sounds WAY better then their guitar stuff. Definitely a worthy buy for the money

Yeah you dont have enough money to really smoke the neighbors. Yeah torquing off the wife is easy, just play during her soap opera. I vote for looking at used Peavey stuff too. There's MEGATONS of that stuff out there from the last 30 years or so and even up to, buying current catalog items at 50% new price used. The stuff does not hold its value at all, especially with the economy in its current condition. Have fun. BOB

+1 to Peavey. They're generally pretty heavy amps, which would make it hard for your wife to pick up and hit you over the head with.

old sunn concert bass heads can be had on the cheap, if you want i know where you can get one.

i love my sunn concert bass head and matching 2x15 cabinet.

If you can pick up a yorkville bass combo I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. They rock hard.

look for a tnt 115, you can get a used one in good shape for around $300, and those things are loud and versatile
