Pist Off with musicians friends!

I just got a pair of active monitors for my studio. They were sold by musiciansfriend. They were $700 each one. One came perfectly packaged, with its foam and paper protector, and the other came poorly packaged, with just some paper. It looked like a costumer returned. It came all scratched, with dents. I thought i could live with that. But then i found that actually the tweeter was all broken from it frame!! I mean, what it takes to break an inside plastic and metal frame for god!! And there was no signs of a big smack could do it. But the nicer thing was that someone just put a piece of foam to keep the tweeter in its place.
I just wanted to share my experience, and since it wasn't an incidental accident i assume they were aware of this. If it could happened at shipping i could assume carrier responsibility, but this is clearly not the case. I want to share my experience with all of you!

yeah,.. well i'm pissed at Amazon for selling me a returned amp! i really didn't care about the terrible re-packaging. the damn thing was obviously defective after plugging it in! i wrote them a terrible e-mail and sent it back. i hope my letter was enough to spare the next customer the hassle!:(

B-stock is often a great deal when it works.:)

Contact MF. They will arrange for prepaid return shipping and will either send refund or replacement as you choose. Only had one damaged product from MF in the 15 plus yrs Ive bought from them. They covered return shipping via prepaid ups label, No problem.

They shipped me my new Sterling sub in a single box with no padding. The bass was just bouncing around in the box. I called and they said that's how they received it from the manufacturer so that's how they shipped it. Anyone who moved the box would have felt a bass neck bouncing from side to side, so not much of an excuse. Thankfully it arrived undamaged, but yeah, MF sucks sometimes.

Not really MF's fault..that's how they come from the factory.

This. Things happen all the time, they'll take care of it. If you complain the right way and ask nicely, they'll probably give you a discount for the hassle too.

this . . . it's a big company. crap happens. if you want white glove service there are plenty of boutique places to buy from that have that built into their price. MF will make it good - they always have w/ me in the 10+ years of shopping there . . .

Wow, a company that send out tens of thousands of orders each day made a mistake. Thanks for the warning, I'll never use them again. From now on I'm only using companies that are perfect!!! :rollno:

This aint my first online experience ;). and i know big companies make mistakes and so. No a great discovery over here. My point is that it was clearly a DEFECTIVE unit, packaged so poorly... that led me think whether they KNEW what they were restocking. Thats deceiving costumers. I have bought new, b-stock and so.. and i know what to expect.. but this kind of pist me off..shipping problems are in other category.. no selling defective units as new :scowl:

MF screws up a lot lately. But they always make good for it. I order more than most, and probably go through more crap because of that I guess. Regardless, they've managed to keep me as a satisfied customer. Even swayed me away from americnamusical who I always used to order from. I can't say I feel completely safe that what I order is going to arrive at my door as it should, but if it doesn't I'm certain that they'll make it right one way or another.

One thing I wish they'd do differently is have the customer service people identify themselves, should there be any problems in communication. I just purchased an ipad from them, and went through a whole lot of misinformation, miscommunication, and frustration. Without going into all the details, I was given very different information from 2 people regarding the 15% discount, and then after ordering it and deciding before it arrived that I wanted to get the 32 gig instead of the 16, spoke to 3 people and got 3 different sets of directions on how to go about doing this. I only called back a 2nd time because 30 hrs after paying for expedited delivery on the 2nd ipad, I still hadn't gotten any order or delievery confirmation. The first Ipad, which I didn't pay extra to be expedited, went out the same day. And there were no holidays or weekends involved.... anyhow... getting into details I really didn't want to. And the IPad did wind up shipping more quickly once it actually got to UPS. 3 days as opposed to the usual 4 or 5.

Bottom line of all this is that I was told by the 2nd guy I spoke to regarding the exchange, that when the first ipad arrives from UPS just refuse delivery. I asked him if he was certain that there would be no problems if I did that (as I needed to be refunded on the first), and he assured me it would be fine. When I asked for his name "just in case", he paused... and said "Mattew". I asked nicely for a last name and he said, "I'm not giving you my last name". Anyhow, I didn't feel safe refusing the package, called back, and was finally advised on what seemed like the proper way to go about doing this. I used the information on the return slip that was packed in the box and brought it to UPS. Which again, was different direction than the first guy gave me. First guy had me waiting for return labels which I were never sent.

Anyhow, bottom line is they're not perfect in their transactions, but they seem pretty close to perfect in making sure that they keep their customers happy. They refunded me $50 on a mandolin I just bought that was clearly a return, and that's what I would have happily paid for the same manolin if I bought it used. Was in fact a good price for that mandolin had I bought it used.

Much more than I intended to say. :) And yes, I will still shop there. Very happy with my new iPad. And my mandolin. And a bunch of basses, synths, moniters, etc, etc....

I'm not saying MF is a bad company and they won't get any more of my business. They will. Whether or not the bass was damaged is irrelevant. Shipping something that's clearly been packed incorrectly isn't ok. It's like a restaurant serving a steak with a thumbtack in it. They didn't make the steak, they bought from the butcher. Is it just the butchers fault? Or the restaurants fault for serving a steak with a tack in it. The customer may have eaten around the thumbtack and went home happy. It's still not ok.
The bass wasn't damaged, so apparently it is ok!
