Sorry that I missed this thread the first time around. I lived in Pittsburgh from '83-88 and was bass player number 5(?) in the infamous Carsickness. I also played with Daryl Fleming a bit -- loved his playing. I used to be friends with Ben Opie from Watershed 5tet -- a very interesting saxophonist.

Any of you guys hitting any of the weekly jam sessions?

I'm pretty busy most evenings with gigs and family stuff -- but one of my New Year's Resolutions (in advance) will be to get out more and meet more musicians on the scene.

I've been in town about 4 years now -- and I'm amazed by how many good musicians there are here in da Burgh.

Anybody here play an EUB? I posted this on some of the EUB threads --

I'm looking to check out anything super portable like a Kydd or an NS Bass Cello. Might have to pay Dino up at BSX a visit and try out of those "Flip" basses or maybe the Half Note solid body.

Count me in. I live south of the city in Brownsville, but spent my first year of college at Pitt's main campus in Oakland. Still get out to da 'Burgh quite often, Carson St. mainly.

Oh yeah, rabid Pens fan. Don't even get me started.

Been in New England since 1980, but was born n raised in the Steel City. Dad worked for US Steel (who? yes, Billy it was a big messy company that was here before UPMC) for 30 years. Home was in Ross Township. Grade School was Assumption in Bellevue. High school North Catholic... Pitt grad (yay, Inverted Mineshaft!)

Ahrn City Beer....Streetcars.....Flying Fraction.....Bob Prince....Green Weenie...Forbes Field....Dahntahn.....Bill Burns.

Bought my first bass (a Sekova hollowbody) from Turner's Music Store on Atwood or O'hara st or thereabouts in Oakland in 1967.

Yeah, I'll take a number.....

the Civic Arena ( which is scheduled to be demolished )as it has finally been replaced with a new one.

HAS ANYONE BESIDES ME GONE TO A ROCK CONCERT IN THE 60'S70'S80'S WHENEVER, and had them open the roof up? I remember when they finally stopped opening the roof as the cost involved became astronomical.

the economic downfall of the late 60's thru the 70's that destroyed the: /uptown/hillDistrict/northside/eastLiberty/Wilkensburg/Garfield/Frankstown-Larimer-Hamilton ( oh GOD I could list 100 neighborhoods )

the growth period in the 80's and 90's which turned this $h**hole city into something to be proud of....

RIP mayor Pete Flaherty/Richard Calaguri, and Mayor Sophie Masloff
