Here is my theory. My jazz bass is VVT, I use the VV to control the balance. I never turn them both off or have one less than 100%. I have a P bass where the tapper of the volume is 100% on or back off more than 20% and it's virtually off. My DB with Piezo pickup does not have a volume control. So I've never really used a volume knob for volume per see. I'll use the mute button on my amp and when my amp is tucked away where I can't get at it regularly I will drop my tuner pedal in-line rather than through a tuner out on the amp. I also after asking some questions here decided to go with an ungrounded blend pot and an orange drop capacitor. I also put on a set of Chromes which I've never tried before.
I wish I could speak to the tone of this thing but I've been battling a double ear infection for a week now and have a terrible hum in my ears. I like to think it sounds good, but honestly I can't hear very well.
Hoping it is good enough to motivate me to sell my AV57P and AV64J time will tell.

hope it clears up soon!Hey guys, I just purchased an early 90's Precision 'Cowpoke' sort of sight unseen. It's one of the basses on my bucket list and I practically stole it off the guy. Low and behold I brought it home, opened up the back and found out why I really got it so cheap...someone removed the Kubicki preamp setup and installed some aftermarket no-name pots. So aggravating! Now I need to find a Kubicki preamp setup. Does anyone have one laying around or know where I might be able to find them? There are none on eBay. I think I'm going to try contacting the Kubicki company online and see if they have any kicking around. Thanks for any help guys!

It never hurts to try talking to the manufacturer. With a small company like Kubicki, you never know when somebody's gonna say "ya know, I saw one in the desk I don't use anymore...lemme go make sure it's there".
I found another in a pawn shop on the way to a concert in Nashville. Jackson JS40. The hardware's been painted black-poorly-and the body (its alder) has some scars, but the neck is in great shape with no dents or damage. The pickups are replacements, but they've got an interesting tone; I may keep 'em.

Picked this up last month for $95.. an Ovation Celebrity B2 bass. Seems to play well. Needs a little bit of work and tweaking. Nothing I can do with the chrome stripper on it. That thing is chrome and the previous owner dug into the bass underneath it to get it pretty flush to the face of the bass. (grrrr....)

I wish I knew the difference and could give you some input.
I believe I've only experienced 70's.
I can't speak to the reverse P but I love the classic P sound and sure I'd miss with it unless you have a specific reason too.
As far as 60s vs 70s I think it has a lot to do with what you want rather than one being better than the other. What wood choice you are planning on going with and what type of strings you are planning on using. I went with a 70s location and not once have I regretted it.

I think I'd prefer a 60s tone, but the pups would be closer together. This can sometimes cause a nasally sound with the pups blended. Sadowsky does it anyway.
