Gday, here's my P/J bass.
It's a 'Squier Standard' P-Bass circa 2005 that has a slim Jazz neck that I picked up for AUD$80 recentlly.
It was pretty much unloved but I cleaned it up, added some new strings and SD Qtr Pounder that I had spare woke it up.
I also added a J pickup spare from a Squire VM Jazz, I'm unsure if I wired them up correctly as it sounds weak when both are opened, the P sound good on its own.
I'm planning on getting my 'Guitar Guru' to install SD's SPB-(P) 1 & STK-2 (J) as well as change the electronics.
Before i picked this up, I was looking st Fender Jazz Aerodyne so I'm hoping that this Bass will satisfy my craving for a P/J.
The colour is Walnut Stain, bland bland bland......would like to give it some style. Any suggestions on pickguard colour?

It's that 70's black & brown Fender vibe - it's only bland if you aren't wearing a brown suede big lapeled suit with black suede platform boots & floppy big-brimmed brown leather hat w/black band. ;)

G'day I've just picked up another PJ bass with the intention of modding it.

It's a Yamaha BB200 (?90's) that started life as a Passive P and at some point has been modded and is now an 'Active PJ' with the inclusion on a Carvin J PU. Whoever did it did a great job as the pickup & wiring cavities have been well shielded. Annoyingly the bass played 'ok' when i picked it up, but now at home isn't making a sound, so will be dropped into Guitar Tech today to assess and hopefully fix as well as setup.

I also have a Squier Standard PJ Bass that plays ok, intend on swapping the PU's with SD SBP1 + STK2.
Both have P shape bodies and slim J Necks.
The Yamaha has been well played judging by the fret-wear.

I'm really curious to see how it sounds (once i get it back) with the Active PJ setup (plus wondering which one to modify first)

I don't see that I joined this club, though I certainly qualify. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the PJ combination on a P body. So here are my current family members.
The "black & chrome" special edition has new hipshot tuners to cure a little neck-dive that was going on, as well as a Fender deluxe hi-mass bridge that came stock on Fender blacktop P basses. The burst bass also has new tuners, new pots, cap and knobs, and since this photo was taken, I have installed the "rebirth" of the Leo Quan BA II bridge, made by Omega.

I've replaced the both the P and J pickups with Nordstrands, as I didn't care much for the stock overwound p bass pickup. Also the pots are now CTS 250k, new orange cap, and wired V/V/T (got rid of the pickup selector switch).

Might put a hipshot bridge in there down the road.

This one will be with me for a while.

Oh but they did. They convinced me to spend less time on here & get better at playing.
I've played so much lately that my doctor told me to lay off it for a bit.

I saw no reason to have two basses that were high end, and now I've got a beater.
The LTD was a similar buy, a beater, but it's a great player & I'm picking up an expression pedal to use with my EHX Pitch Fork, so I can get those squeals like I used to with my BC Rich (Floyd Rose).

After playing J basses only for OVER 30 years it takes a bit of getting used to the sound of my new PJ bass. It plays beautifully, but I'm still working on dialing the pickup heights in.
I have EMGX pickups with the BTS circuit. Blend Vol and Stacked bass and treble. The way I had it set up was:
J pickup 2/32" om the E and 4/32 on the G ( finger on the 20th fret) P pickup also fairly close, angled closer to the A and D strings quite a bit. Sounded OK, but it made the J pickup sound anemic on it's own. The P pickup was way louder and a bit muddy.There was also a lot of fret clanking.
Today I lowered the P to 4/32" on the E and the G I flattened out the bump in the center. I left the J the way it was. Now there is less clanking. Adding a little of the P to the J to make the Jaco sound a little fuller seems to work better ( less nasal on the G string) and favoring the P with a little of the J mixed in sounds better as well. I seem to have more clarity P pickup but I can still get that Billy Sheehan growl. That sound is definitely something that I have never had before and I love it. Mostly I play R&B, Funk, Latin and Contemporary Jazz, so I don't need it. But for the occasional rock gig it's a great sound to have.....
I have actually done gigs with just the PJ bass and I was pretty happy. The guys in the band liked it as well. Maybe this new setting will make it even better.
