Double Bass Planning a doubling rig

I posted a related thread not too long ago, and got good advice: a separate DI for each instrument’s signal path. Let’s you dial yourself in on stage and make’s the FOH person’s life a lot easier.

I provided this advice to somebody several weeks ago...may be it was you...? Anyway, I am glad you consider it a good advice.

Ideally I want to have separate signal paths, EQs and DI outs for both electric and upright, with muting/tuning ability. seems damn complicated.

It doesn't have to be too complicated.

There are several ways how to achieve two DI outs (other than Grace Felix preamp which is perfect but costly):

1. two amps with one cabinet each (I usually carry two cabinets and TE Elf as a backup amp anyway)
2. amp+cabinet for one instrument, preamp (even single channel) for the other instrument (FOH monitors for stage sound)
3. the same as No. 2 above but using DI box provided by FOH instead of preamp.

Even though I prefer to provide the FOH with two separate DI outs when doubling, I have been able to achieve reasonably good results with two channels of my EBS MicroBass II preamp. The EQ on each channel is limited but it is sufficient when used together with EQ on my active BG... Plus the preamp has FX loop so any additional pedals can be shared for both instruments...

I think it's preferable *if possible* to have the sound guy treat the acoustic and electric as separate instruments on his board.

I've really been enjoying, doubling on my present rig. I pug both my eb and ub into my Radial Bassbone then right into my Aguilar 350 (no loop input) then into either one or two single 12". ... The Radial's do the job.
