There's been a number of threads on how to deal with requests for specific songs, but how about the opposite? . This one can happen anywhere/anytime/anygig - someone comes up to the stand and says:

"Play something we can dance to".

When you reply - what had you in mind/can you suggest something/any particular style, tempo, genre?. They say:

"I dunno, you decide!".

Sound familiar?.

Pretty much this. Rock a root/octave jam over any b7 chord, always hit on the 1, and you`re set.

If that were the case, I'd seriously reassess my set list and learn what dance music really is.
