played a Classic stingray.. my thoughts and your responses!

was able to be the first one to play a brand new classic they just put on the floor and thought it was amazing,i was used to the 2 band because of my sub, but what really is great about the bass is the neck,i agree those laquered down necks feel really great,not that the waxed necks feel bad as i love the feel of wood,but still the vintage radius felt great and handled great in my hands

I finally got the chance today to play a classic ray.. HOLY MOLY was I blown away... I have a sting ray (3eq) and a sterling at home.. THe classic ray with the 2eq blows away the 3 eq rays.. Now I see why the 2 eq is becoming a fast favorite... Its got a very sweet punchy tone....And this is probably the first bass with a maple fingerboard that Ive ever enjoyed....

If I ever get another bass, this is definitely the next one for me... No question.

I LOVE the figuring and the amber tint.

New EBMM maple necks seem almost white to me... I really like the aged yellow tint that older maple boards have.

Well for the rock tone....
I got one of these Classics in, and the strings were nice and fresh and zingy. Not bad for nickels...
But once I got around to putting my favorite stainless strings on, all the crunch and low growl I'm familiar with is there.

No kidding, I have the same experience.. DEAD AS STRINGS!!!! Especially at GC.

I played a classic one at GC. It sucked. Nice neck but I dislike the fact it had no mids control. Mid bite is like my thing. Too bassy, thus, no good slap tone.

I finally got a chance to play a classic back home the other week. I had a feeling I would like it, but didn't know I would find it so incredible! I have a Stingray with the 3 band eq, and while i love love love my 'ray, this thing was just stellar all around. I thought I'd hate the 2 band eq, yet I was able to get the sounds I wanted so easily (plus, I tend to only adjust the bass and treble on mine. Mid's almost always stay flat, or is barely used if I change it at all). So round and punchy, which I love (though sometimes I like the grit I can get out of mine when I want it). What really surprised me though was the neck. I absolutely love the oil finish on mine, and tend to prefer those kinds of finishes, but the gloss neck was so smooth and easy to play. It looked amazing to boot. Now what I really want to try is a Classic 5 string!
