Played an Ibanez ATK today.

I've tried one at my friend's guitar shop, but I've been more impressed with the SR's emulation from Lakland basses (55-94 for instance, but the cheaper 55-02 or 44-02 would do the same).

A good 5 string Ibanez is the SR305. A guy I know loves his ATK he says that the tone rivals is Albumic(I think thats how you spell it?)

IMHO ATK 750 (same as a 300 but koa top and jazz pup in neck position) is the best bass ever. EVER.

While calling something the 'best' is always dangerous, I have to agree that the 750 is an amazing instrument. It's very flexible, plays great, and is a great, great bass for the money.

Does anyone know how the switching works on the 750 with the extra J pup? Is the switch now a 4 or 5-way? Are the configurations on the ATK300 all available as well?

All the ATKs are some of the best basses available today, regardless of price.

If that switch had a "passive" position, I´d seriously consider buying an ATK. Very nice, very funky basses. Still prefer my SUB though.

I suppose that if you didn't hear any difference between the 3 position of the switch, it is because you were at GC.


So taking that into acount, you should not be so easy to say that switch is dumb...

You definitely have a point about me being in GC. I'm just not a big fan of switches like that for pup selection...would much prefer some sort of blend knob but I guess all the hum-canceling shenanigans going on would be difficult to control with one of those. Don't get me wrong, it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me buying it. Again, I really liked almost everything about it except for the switch and that might even grow on me if I spent more time with the bass.

Now I just need to find someone who stocks a 705. Can't seem to even be able to find any internet sellers who have any of those.

I was all set to buy a stingray until I came accross the ATK305. I can't give this bass enough wraps! It's bloody awesome value!

One of the reasons I brought it was because of the pick-up switch and the vastly different tones I could get from it. I don't know what kind of mudbox amps the GC guys made you plug into, but the first time I tried one was through a small Fender combo (not sure of the model) and it was very clear to me.
Then I got it home and plugged into my Eden rig and all I can say it WOW!
I generally keep the switch in the Attack position these days as I love the aggressiveness of the tone.

Yeah it may piss some people off but I believe it. Sound, looks, playability, and especially value, when you do the math I can't find anything better.

Try a "REAL" ATK, the originals made in the usa with the Dave bunker 3 peice no tension truss rod, holy crap awsome basses, plus the headstocks pop off!

Well, they don't really 'pop off,' seeing as how they are attached to a 3/4" truss bar, and not easily removed. But, they are separate from the wood portion of the neck, and I do agree, the USA Custom ATK's are top of the heap (I own two, a 4 and a 5-string).

I can't believe all you guys can't hear the difference in the switch positions. The secret is you have to use it in conjunction with the eq. The neck position is single coil with a filter, the middle is the same with the filter off (and although it's subtle it's definitely audible) and the brige position is night and day - that's where the SR sound is!
Most people agree that
neck position with plenty of mids and a bit of treble gives you a P sort of sound
mid position with some bass and treble boost (no mid) will give a more J sound
bridge with some bass and treble and maybe mid down a bit gives you a SR
Play around with it, and you'll see - it's the most versatile eq system I've ever used
If you just turn up your amp and the eq and flick the switch around, you won't hear a massive difference, but give it a try and you'll see. I've got a P a J and a SR knock-off TBC here, and I can get the ATK to sound pretty close to all of them!

This is what I'm looking for!
