Played my 77 Ric for an entire gig at the request of the rest of the band. First time I'd played it for a big live gig in 25 years. Gotta admit the recording of that bass at the gig sounded pretty amazing! Looked awesome too.

Love the fact that old basses are still being heard...do you think the person that assembled that bass knew how far it would go?
Exactly why is this a shock! This is what this bass is *supposed* to do!

A modern Rickenbacker is pretty much made by cnc machines. There is some hand labor as well.
My '74 often finds use on the stage. Love how vintage RICs often can be obtained cheaper than newer ones.

Well said. My band mates and I have been amazed at how good it still sounds! I have an 83 Jazz an 81 Ibanez Musician and a really nice Fretless with a custom neck none of those are slouches, I do love playing the Jazz and Fretless but that Ric looks awesome sounds huge, and is a really fast playing neck. I've still got The Ric-O-Sound box but haven't played it in stereo yet.

Any bass I walk on stage with I play for the entire gig. I'm not sure why this should be an accomplishment. My 73 Precision never needed a mid set break and none of the 60's or 50's instruments I've seen have needed a rest after a handful of songs.

I use my 72 Ric for all the hard rock stuff we do. You're right it looks awesome and sounds even better. But have to admit my J Bass is my work horse with my fretless is used on the ballads.
On ebay I've picked up two 70's and one early 80's RIC, all for around $1000, average. They were slightly modded (mostly just bridge mods) but nothing worth knocking value down that far. I regularly see 70's RICs go for $1300-$1600 on ebay, unmolested.
I trot out my '78 4001 at a gig now and then, and use my '76 P all the time - both are still as solid as ever...
