I admit it's as primitive as you can get but the EQ curve is affected. As you turn the VPF up you lessen the mids and boost both lows and highs. Maybe this doesn't meet the classic definition of EQ as in the ability to affect multiple bands independently but there is tonal variation.

I don't know, Al. Looks like a full crop to me.I think if one is looking for "traditional EQ controls/filters" it is probably lacking a bit. However, the VPF is definitely an EQ control/filter in the true sense of the word even though it doesn't offer the same degree of user selectable control one might have with multiple EQ filters in a typical tone stack.
FWIW, I really like the VPF and VLE filters that Markbass came up with. On the other hand I will readily admit that they are not going to work for everyone and/or every situation. That's when I turn to the equally well-designed (for my needs) Markbass conventional tone stack (on the larger heads) for tone shaping.
As an aside, I have a few hairs left to split, but they're a lot greyer than they used to be.![]()
